Operation Manual for Model A Anteus Back Pressure Consolidometers.

Abstract

This manual was written for two major purposes. First, it was designed to act as a guide for those carrying out investigations on consolidation characteristics of soils or sediments and who are already familiar with typical testing procedures. The Anteus consolidometers require complete familiarity and special attention when they are being used for research on unusual materials such as extremely soft marine soils. For these soft soils, the low loads are very significant and this means that the neutral or zero point must be well established. Determining the zero point precisely is a difficult operation and the zero point will change as loading and unloading cycles are carried out. This is because the neutral point is a function of the height of fluid in the reservoir. This problem and our methods for finding the zero or neutral point are detailed in this report. (Author)
