Application of Pattern Recognition Techniques to the Analysis of Gamma-Ray Spectra.

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to test a pattern recognition system's ability to detect Gaussian peaks in gamma-ray spectra. The pattern recognition system, based upon a proposed model of the human recognition system, uses Fourier Transforms as a vital part of the recognition process. A brief description of the biological bases for the model and the necessary mathematical background are presented. A system which was successful in detecting those peaks it had been 'taught' is described. (Author)
