Cooperative Monitoring of a Highway Shipment of Missiles from Charleston, South Carolina, to Concord, California.

Abstract

The U.S. Army Transportation Engineering Agency, Military Traffic Management and Terminal Service participated in the monitoring of a highway shipment of 18 ready-for-issue missiles with the Naval Weapons Handling Laboratory, Naval Ammunition Depot, Earle, Colts Neck, New Jersey. The missiles, consisting of TARTARS, TERRIERS, and STANDARDS in MK 199 and MK 372 containers, were transported from the Naval Weapons Station (NWS), Charleston, South Carolina, to the Naval Weapons Station (NWS), Concord, California, via Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, between 18 April and 23 April 1970. Environmental factors monitored consisted of shock and vibration and road conditions and temperature, relative humidity, and pressure. The transport vehicle was a standard suspension semitrailer pulled by an over-the-road tractor. (Author)
