The Use of Ultrasonic Surface Waves to Evaluate Magnetic Indications of Subsurface Defects.

Abstract

An ultrasonic technique for detecting flaws near the surface in plate material has been developed. The technique makes use of pulsed surface waves in a two transducer 'pitch-catch' arrangement. This provides greater sensitivity than a single transducer pulse-echo system. The system is used to evaluate magnetic particle indications of near-surface flaws. (Author)
