Stability of a Circular Cylindrical Sandwich Shell Reinforced by Lateral Ring-Type Diaphragms,

Abstract

Equations of equilibrium in displacements are obtained for a shallow sandwich shell of asymmetrical construction with isotropic face layers and light-weight core; the equations are reduced to two equations in terms of a force function and deflection for the case of an isotropic core, and are supplemented by the projections of tangential stresses in the prebuckling state. Differential equations of the complex flexure of a reinforcing diaphragm are discussed. The procedure of deriving an equation for determining the buckling load of a circular cylinder of symmetrical sandwich construction under omnidirectional normal pressure is outlined.
