On Two or More Dimensional Optimum Quantizers.

Abstract

It is hard to compute the performance of an N-level K-dimensional optimum quantizer Q(N) directly. The report studies the performance of Q(N) more closely from the performance of Q prime(N), a class of stationary quantizers. In this preliminary work, an analytical derivation of the algorithm for general Q prime(N) quantizers is given. A computer experimental study on the performance of Q prime(N) for two dimensional signal shows that it is possible to bound the performance of Q(N) more closely from Q prime(N). (Author)
