Discontinuous Magnetofluidynamic Flows: Similarity Solutions and Shock Relations.

Abstract

The work investigates some special solutions of the steady magneto-gas dynamic small-perturbation equations, describing the three transitional flows: transonic, hypercritical, trans-Alfvenic. The physical background, and a qualitative mathematical description are presented, along with the similarity solutions for partial differential equations. The general method of Bluman and Cole is presented in detail, and examples given. Also, it is proved that the similarity lines may support shock waves. These theoretical results are applied for obtaining the similarity variables and equations for transonic and hypercritical flows. Several solutions of these equations are given, and some flows about bodies are constructed showing the different peculiar properties of similarity solutions. (Author)
