Study of Rare-Earth Ions in Color Centers.
Abstract
The effects of heat treatments and of irradiation on the spinel Co304 doped with Co-57 have been studied. It appears that lattice defects are induced which remove the cubic symmetry at the tetrahedral cobalt lattice site. These lattice defects relax in times on the order of hours. A review has been presented of the capability of the Mossbauer effect to give information about lattice induced by irradiation, for example. The Mossbauer resonance of the 21.6-keV state of Eu-151 has been studied following Coulomb excitation with high-energy alpha particles. The Morin transition in hematite has been found, by computer analysis of Mossbauer spectra, to be first order to within 0.6K. (Author)
