The Calculation of Solar Radiation Received and Absorbed at the Sea Surface,

Abstract

Methods of calculating monthly values of insolation based on cloud estimates are examined. A suitable form is chosen to predict insolation values for time increments as small as one hour. Smoothing of data gives a form for n, the proportion of insolation that is diffuse. By means of separate values for direct and diffuse solar input, sea surface albedo values are calculated from a semi-empirical equation. (Author)
