Spillway for Big Bend Dam, Missouri River, South Dakota: Hydraulic Model Investigation.

Abstract

The spillway for Big Bend Dam was studied on a 1:60-scale model to determine flow conditions in the approach channel and the performance of the various elements of the structure. Particular emphasis was placed on the selection of a stilling basin which would operate satisfactorily with tailwater depths insufficient for ideal performance of a hydraulic-jump type basin.
