Prototype Design and Evaluation for Infrared Nondestructive Inspection of Insulated Rocket Motor Cases.

Abstract

A direct method, using infrared (IR) techniques, of nondestructively examining an insulated rocket motor in order to predict potential failure by burnthrough has been demonstrated, and a prototype instrumentation system has been developed. The instrumentation system mechanically scans the empty motor case being examined, in an uncontrolled environment, and presents the data in a time independent intensity modulated x-y plot or thermogram.
