Chemiluminescent Determination of Cobalt in Zinc of High Purity,

Abstract

A photographic chemiluminescent method for the determination of micro-quantities of cobalt, has been used for the determination of 10 to the -6th to -7th per cent of cobalt in zinc of high purity. The determination of 3 x 10 to the -4th per cent or more of cobalt in zinc sulfate can be achieved without separation from the zinc by dilution of the solution being analyzed. To determine smaller quantities, analytical concentrates must be obtained. To obtain analytical concentrates, about 10 to the -8 of cobalt was precipitated with alpha-nitroso - beta-naphthol. To achieve more complete separation of the compound of cobalt with alpha-nitroso-beta-napthol the inert organic collector phenolphthalein was also added.
