Recommendations for a Multi Sensor Test Range.

Abstract

The art and science of modern aerial reconnaissance technology have progressed to the point where the ability to measure the performance of a total reconnaissance system and its components is an inflexible requisite of future significant progress. Such measurement can in part be achieved in a laboratory on the optical bench or in a controlled man-engineered and simulated operational environment. However, some aspects of the reconnaissance system and event defy adequate simulation and other aspects require extensive equipment and development programs if a reasonably accurate simulation is to be achieved. Because of these factors and because of the rapidly developing appreciation for the capability of the fundamental photographic process, a study was conducted to determine the parameters for a facility aimed at the comprehensive and meaningful engineering testing of airborne sensors.
