Pyromagnetic Infrared Radiation Detectors.

Abstract

The report describes progress in investigations of pyromagnetic phenomena, and their application to infrared radiation detection. The characteristics of pyromagnetic radiation detectors, i.e., fast response, broadband, 300K operation, are precisely those required for many important applications in infrared laser research, infrared spectroscopy, remote sensing of infrared emission, and a variety of military problems. Accordingly, the bulk of the research involves the investigation of materials and techniques for pyromagnetic infrared detection. Initial investigations have firmly established the feasibility of the pyromagnetic detection technique. In the technical review that follows an account of the progress made thus far is reported.
