Ametropia Measurements from the Visual Evoked Response (VER).

Abstract

Subjects were tested to determine their refractive status using the computer-derived Visual Evoked Response (VER). Measurements were sensitive to plus or minus 0.25 D sphere, or better. The high degree of precision was attributed to use of a difference curve analysis, the Oz-Pz electrode montage, small size pattern elements, and small graduations in test lens size. The values obtained by VER methods indicated more myopia than values obtained by standard techniques. The VER tests were conducted in darkness, and the results may be an objective measure of night myopia. A program is suggested for semiautomatic refractive measurements by digital computer. (Author)
