Proceedings of the Meeting of the Mechanical Failures Prevention Group (13th). Held at Greenbelt, Maryland on 19-20 October 1970.

Abstract

This is a report of two half-day discussions by a group of technical specialists of the topic 'Standards as a Design Tool in Surface Specification for Mechanical Components and Structures.' The objectives were the study of the role of standards in surface specification and the identification of needed contents for a practical design manual. Interest was centered on processed, metallic surfaces intended to be subjected to significant stresses and/or environments, particularly surfaces of mating parts. Eight prepared talks, the ensuing audience discussions, and concluding recommendations are reported. (Author)
