Penetration of a Plasma Beam in a Magnetic Barrier

Abstract

The report describes theoretical and experimental investigations on the penetration of a plasma beam in a magnetic barrier. The beam is produced by a coaxial plasma gun operated in the plasma focus mode. The magnetic barrier is produced by two large rectangular coils and has a steep gradient, whose characteristic length is smaller than a Larmor radius for the ions.
