Flying Infrared Telescope Observations of Far Infrared Sources
Abstract
The Flying Infrared Telescope (described in Semi-Annual Technical Report No. 1) has been operational during the thirteen-month period ending 31 October 1970 with forty-six high altitude missions being flown. The total infrared luminosities of the galactic center and the Seyfert galaxy NGC-1068, the first extragalactic object to be observed at far-infrared wavelengths have been measured. Likewise, the long-wave infrared (45-750 micrometers) fluxes have been measured from eight sources associated with galactic H2 regions. The development of far infrared transmission filters used during observation of the H2 regions is discussed.
