Research Directed Toward Study of Cosmic Ray and Trapped Radiation.

Abstract

Studies were conducted and investigations directed toward the attainment of detailed information in regard to the presence of star producing events, heavy primaries, ionizing radiation, and other nuclear interactions occuring in emulsions exposed to this radiation at extremely high altitudes. In the interest of determining the intensities of low z components of the Primary Cosmic Radiation as a function of time of day, an experiment was designed, electronics assembled, and two identical units were constructed and calibrated for a July 1970 launch. The theory, design, electronics, and mechanical and pictorial representations are presented in this report. (Author)
