A Lunar Laser Reflector Experiment Performed during the Apollo II Moonwalk.

Abstract

The report summarizes an experiment to detect a retroreflector array placed on the moon by the Apollo 11 astronauts (by measuring the magnitude of the return of a reflected ruby-laser beam directed at the reflector array) before the astronauts left the moon. The Mount Haleakala Observatory on Maui, Hawaii, was in a location such that the moon and the Sea of Tranquillity site on the moon were observable during the moonwalk. (Author)
