Experimental Determination of Fuel Values and Burning Behavior of Window Hangings.
Abstract
The report summarizes a test program conducted by Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FMRC) to estimate the fuel values and burning times of tinder fuels in the form of window hangings as commonly found in urban areas. The fuel arrays were ignited in a manner simulating the time to ignition and the area initially ignited for fuel arrays exposed to a nuclear weapons thermal pulse at a window. The fuel arrays were ignited and measurements made under conditions reasonably approximating room conditions. The fuels were allowed to burn freely, with no assistance from other fuels or forced air supply. No flame inhibitors or suppressants were introduced into the experiment except where noted. (Author)
