The Synthesis of Matrix Units for Adding m-Valued Numbers Represented by Phase-Pulse Codes,

Abstract

The authors study the particulars associated with constructing matrix units realizing a table of m-valued (in this case decimal) summation using the circuit method for phase-pulse representation of information. The results show that the use of this type of unit in an electronic digital computer makes it possible to achieve high-speed performance comparable to that of combined circuits, while the characteristics of the phase-pulse type presentation of information make it possible to simplify both structure, matrix unit, and the computing device as a whole. It is interesting to note that analogic simplification is not possible in constructing m-valued binary-doced matrix units. Thus phase-pulse type presentation of information has distinct advantages.
