The Nature of the Change in Strength of Certain Materials During Creep,

Abstract

Test procedures, special equipment, and test results from research on the change in stress-rupture and tensile strength of steel 1Kh18N9T and the Al-alloy D16T are described. It was established that during creep softening of the material proceeds according to a complex law. Intensive softening occurs at the beginning and at the end of the creep; the intermediate period of creep is characterized by virtually stable strength values. The possibility of sudden failure under overload of certain materials subjected to prolonged subcritical steady-state loading is demonstrated. (Author)
