Urban and Rural Telephone Communications.

Abstract

There has been a steady increase in the mean-annual number capacity increment for the exchange facilities of our city telephone systems. In accordance with the Directives of the Twenty-Third Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 3.6 million numbers are to be placed in service in urban telephone exchanges during the current Five-Year Plan. Special attention is being given to the improvement of telephone service in rural areas. The scheduled increase in the total telephone exchange capacity in the cities and in the countryside should result in a 1.8 fold expansion of the system during this five-year period. In 1968 overall capacity of the telephone network of the country, including departmental and agency systems, was in excess of 10 million numbers. (Author)
