Three Dimensional Grain Stress Analysis Using the Finite Element Method.

Abstract

The report presents the theory used in the finite element 3D Grain Stress Analysis Computer Program. In particular, there is a discussion of the nodal point grid generators that are a part of the computer program. Also, the type of elements used and the derivation of the equations used for the stiffness matrix calculation are discussed. An extrapolation technique for calculating strains and stresses at the boundary is presented, and the successful use of the computer program for analyzing a production motor is illustrated. (Author)
