Analysis of the Energy Resolution of 90 degree Cross Beam Experiments,

Abstract

The energy response function for two Maxwell-Boltzmann beams intersecting at 90 degree is derived. An unfolding equation is derived for the case when one of the beams is accelerated. It is found that, when the masses of the constituents of the two beams are quite different, interesting special cases arise. In particular, it is shown that in electron impact experiments thermal broadening is negligible. (Author)
