Ocean Area 10: A Report of the Cruise and Some Preliminary Observations.

Abstract

Ocean Acre 10 was more successful than the previous nine Ocean Acre Cruises for the following reasons: (1) discrete biological samples were obtained at all sampling depths to 1150 m, day and night, (2) acoustic measurements were taken to obtain scattering strengths during all periods of the day, (3) a direct correlation was obtained between acoustic and biological data, and (4) an improved biological net operating system was used successfully for the first time. When the data are analyzed, the results will be a significant contribution to the understanding of biological reverberation. (Author)
