Dimensionality of Nations Project

Abstract

An analysis of U.N. voting for 1963 delimited four major issue dimensions: sanctions against racial discrimination, U.N. procedures, Union of South Africa, and cold war. Since 1955 there has been a considerable shift of nonaligned nations, such as Egypt, India, and Indonesia, away from the Soviet position. Revisions of a mathematical model of foreign conflict behavior were tested on a global sample of dyads and for subsamples involving the same actor. Testing of a missing data estimation program was finished, programming of a canonical analysis program was begun, and the project's major factor analysis program was revised to increase its speed.
