On Teaching Sensor Technology.

Abstract

After briefly considering presuppositions, aims and methods of teaching sensor technology to both users and designers of sensors, the paper discusses the generalized performance characteristics of static and dynamic sensors as components of instrumentation systems, concluding with a unified theory of bilateral transducers. Sensor types are then classified according to physical effects, and, alternatively, according to input quantities. From the latter scheme pressure sensors are chosen to illustrate scope and variety of relevant transducer types, calibration techniques and environmental effects. (Author)
