Preliminary Verification of AFGWC Boundary-Layer and Macroscale Cloud-Forecasting Models.

Abstract

The report gives the results of a limited verification program of temperature and dew-point forecasts from the AFGWC Boundary-Layer (BLM) and Macroscale Cloud-Forecasting Models using six locations within the United States. The guidance in this report is necessarily broad because of problems encountered in gathering and processing large data samples. Improvement over persistence forecasts shows the BLM possesses considerable skill east of the Rockies but little or no skill along the western boundary and in the mountainous areas. (Author)
