Abstract

In this report the research that was performed during the past year and a half at the California Institute of Technology under Grant AFOSR-68-1400 is summarized briefly. The research was focused on electromagnetic theory and its application. Basic theoretical questions concerning the equation of motion of a charged particle in an electromagnetic field and concerning the influence of gravity on the polarization of an electromagnetic wave were settled. Also, electromagnetic problems arising from schemes for the early detection of clear air turbulence, for the shielding of moving vehicles and stationary objects against an electromagnetic pulse, and for the design of no-blackout spacecraft antennas were solved.
