Shock Initiated Ignition of Ethane-Oxygen-Argon Mixtures.

Abstract

A detailed study was made of ignition delay times in ethane-oxygen-argon mixtures behind a reflected shock wave as indicated by pressure and light emission observation. Measured induction times ranged from 20-600 microsec over a temperature interval of 1235 - 1660K and associated pressures of from 2-8 atm. To elucidate composition effects, the equivalence ratio of the test mixture were varied from 0.5 - 2.0 in approximately 95% dilution with argon. (Author)
