Development of Ocean Data Systems.

Abstract

The report describes the activities and the results of a program to develop ocean data systems. It includes the refurbishment and redeployment of buoy ALPHA, development tasks concerning specific ocean data station subsystems, and data operations. Development activities were continued on the second generation Telemetry and Command System (TCS) which included radio link comparison tests of narrow band and wide band high frequency communication equipment over various distances. Data Acquisition and Control System (DACS) development included functional and life cycle tests of the second generation system. An extensive evaluation of experience with meteorological and oceanographic sensors is presented. Data from all reporting periods preceding the current period have been included. An Interrogation, Recording, and Location Subsystem (IRLS) was installed on buoy ALPHA, calibrated, and tested. Data production activities included data acquisition, data processing, data reporting, data system validation, and software development. Development of a new mooring line/data line which protects the electrical conductor was completed. (Author)
