Disposable Mess Gear Study Under DXGN Cost Reduction Program. Task IV. Ship Design, Fabrication, and Integration Analyses.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the feasibility of using disposable mess gear on the DXGN so as to eliminate the need for a scullery and the personnel required to operate it. Specific items of disposable mess gear have been recommended, and incineration has been recommended as the best means of disposal. The major characteristics of several types of available incinerators are discussed. A disposable mess gear system appears feasible, practical, and cost-effective, and should reduce manpower requirements by four men. It is recommended that a pilot program be conducted to test the complete new system at a shore-based enlisted mess. (Author)
