Design and Analysis of Sampled Data Control Loops Using Computer Aided Graphics.

Abstract

When dealing with a servo loop which has a digital computer in the loop, it is necessary to implement certain control equations in the computer which will give the servo loop the desired frequency response and stability characteristics. The report describes a method of determining the desired control equations by the use of a digital computer design program and computer graphics. The design program uses the Z transform technique to do root locus analysis and servo loop response simulation. A special method of handling excessive overshoot in nonlinear systems is described. The design program allows an on-line operator to vary loop parameters including sample interval and observe the resulting loop performance immediately in graphic form and with a minimum of operator preparation.
