Abstract

The feasibility of combining the EBIRD (Electron Beam Ionization of semiconductor device) operating principle with avalanche diode operation was investigated. As a result of this investigation, a new mode of avalanche diode operation which combines EBIRD and TRAPATT (Trapped Plasma Avalanche Triggered Transit) is proposed, and a simple analytical theory for its operation is presented.
