Tropical Field Test of a Knitted Paper Sandbag.

Abstract

Field trials of the knitted paper sandbag (containing an organo-zinc fungicide) and six other sandbag types conducted by the Australian Military Forces in temperate, semi-tropical, and tropical environments are described. Data obtained from these tests show that nylex, a bag having a nylon scrim laminated between two vinyl films, had superior resistance properties but was too slippery to stack well. Knitted paper with an organo-zinc fungicide (MIL-B-52231A) and jute burlap with an organo-zinc copper fungicide (MIL-B-12233A), the control sandbag, had parallel performances and followed nylex in overall performance. Three Japanese polypropylene sandbags, containing no UV inhibitors, performed poorly. (Author, modified-PL)
