An Experimental Method for Determining Mechanical Properties at High Strain Rates

Abstract

An experimental method for determining the stress-strain relation in uniform tension at very high strain rates is presented. The equipment and the measuring technique used are described in some detail together with the numerical procedures involved in evaluating the data obtained during a test. Results obtained for commercially available copper in original and in annealed conditions are presented in order to illustrate the method.
