Design Study and Development of Improved Heating Techniques for Inflight Meals.

Abstract

Heating methods investigated for warming inflight foods included electromagnetic, ultrasonic, Hilch Tube, radiant and electrical resistance techniques. An improved application of electrical resistance heating, incorporating improved metal to metal conduction and radiant heating (for cans) was determined to be the best type of ration heating because of the possibility of greater compactness and electrical voltage versatility in oven design.
