Machine Cutting and Polishing Techniques for Proustite and Similar Soft Crystals.

Abstract

The equipment and technique for the production of optical surfaces on proustite with flatnesses approximately Lambda/10 (He) and residual scratches approximately 5 nanometers peak-to-valley are described. The relative merits of soft metal and wax laps are examined. It is concluded that proustite and other similar soft crystals can be worked quickly and accurately by these techniques. (Author)
