Diver Communication Microphone Development and Installation.

Abstract

This is the final report on work performed under ONR Contract No. N00014-70-C-0313, to develop and install in two diving masks, a ceramic gradient microphone insensitive to mask cavity acoustics, essentially flat in pressure response to 10,000 Hz for use in deep submergence helium atmospheres, and capable of withstanding compression, decompression and intermittent flooding. The microphone and associated preamplifier were successfully developed. This development program potentially provides the Navy with a microphone that is insensitive to mask cavity acoustics, noise, and response deterioration of deep submergence atmospheres. (Author)
