Plasma Transfusion Reactions in Isoimmunized Monkeys.

Abstract

Macaca irus monkeys, cross-immunized with isologous red cells, were cross-transfused with hyperimmune plasma. Transfusion reactions were studied from the point of view of hemolytic potential of the infused plasma and coagulation changes in the recipients. Plasma transfusion reactions in this species were found to result in hemolysis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and evidence of intravascular fibrin deposition at autopsy. These reactions appeared very similar to those observed in human cases. (Author)
