Test and Evaluation of Lensatic Compasses Modified with Tritium-Sealed Sources,

Abstract

The Army's lensatic compass has been modified with sealed luminous sources of tritium gas. These sources provide more luminosity with fewer radiological hazards. The results from mechanical and radiological tests are reported. The sealed sources introduced no mechanical problem and virtually eliminated the escape of tritium from the compass. The hazards associated with the accidental release in storage locations are evaluated. (Author-PL)
