Study of Training Device Needs for Meeting Basic Officer Tactics Training Requirements. Volume 1

Abstract

The study was conducted to identify tactical training needs and objectives of basic submarine officer personnel assigned to SSN and SSBN class submarines; identify specific requirements for training materials which will meet the training objectives; and provide functional requirements for recommended training devices. An operational analysis determined the job requirements, in terms of skills and knowledge, for each member of the fire control party. Training techniques and devices are recommended to meet the training objectives. The ability of existing facilities to meet the recommended device needs is discussed, and modifications are recommended. Finally, additional training devices are recommended to fulfill the needs not met by existing facilities. These new devices consist of a generalized individual trainer and a periscope visual task trainer.
