Autonomic Disorders in Cervical Migraine (O Vegetativnykh Narusheniyakh pri Sheinoi Migreni),
Abstract
In cervical migraine the main symptoms are persistent headaches, frequently of the hemicrania type. The pains start in the cerico-occipital region, spread forward, and radiate into the eyeball and the ear on the same side. Disorders of vision (darkening of vision, 'mouches volantes,' concentric narrowing of the visual field) and of hearing (noise, ringing, reduced acuity) are characteristic. All the symptoms mentioned depend on rotation of the head: they increase with the slightest movement, and decrease at rest. Some time after the start of the sickness, cervical radicular symptoms are added which attract the examiner's attention to the cervical segment of the spine. In recent years, many studies proved that an entire series of cardio-vascular disorders, humero-scapular periarthritis, epicondylitis, and a few other symptoms are the sequelae of the irritation of the posterior cervical sympathetic nerve.
