Survey of Applicable Safeguards for Insuring the Integrity of Information in the DaTA Processing Environment.

Abstract

Recent newspaper headlines highlight the need for controls to insure information integrity. The possibility that vital business information may be disclosed to a competitor is real. Since many aspects of a successful business are dependent on data processing, effective safeguards must be provided for the data processing environment. This paper defines the threats to the integrity of information processed or stored in a data processing environment, describes two data processing environments, discusses available safeguards and indicates the applicability of each safeguard in countering threats in each environment.
