Synthesis of Circuits from Universal Elements,

Abstract

The efficiency of application of logical elements realizing a set of Boolean functions is determined, on the one hand, by the rational use of similar elements, and on the other hand, by the necessity of having an adequate set of functions for a more expedient synthesis of functional circuits. The selection of functions used for solving the problems of synthesis is equivalent to the selection of the types of logical elements from which any desirable logical circuit can be constructed. Some specific features of the synthesis of complex circuits made of versatile elements which perform all logical functions of arguments are considered. The application of these elements to constructing logical and computing circuits provides the most economical constructions, but this calls for the application of new principles of optimization of the process of synthesis. It is shown that the efficiency of constructing circuits from versatile multiterminal networks is determined by the peculiarities of synthesis as well as by engineering advantages, low cost and reliability of the resulting circuits.
