Quarterly Technical Report No. 6, 1 Jun-31 Aug 69.

Abstract

Considerable investigation has been made of changes in conflict behavior from one period to another. The patterns of national conflict behavior were compared for 1955 and 1963. The research captured, quantitatively, a great many conflict changes that occurred in the world, but it is apparent that more time periods are needed to plot conflict dynamics. An analysis of 1950 UN voting patterns brought out five major issue dimensions relating to Cold War, World War 2 aftermath, human rights, trusteeship, and Israel. The basic dimensions of attribute space in 1963 were delineated by factor analysis. The most striking changes deal with the size factor; population forms a new dimension with accusations and riots from the foreign conflict and domestic conflict factors respectively.
