Prediction and Analysis of Solar Eclipse Circumstances

Abstract

The report addresses the prediction and analysis of solar eclipse circumstances of interest to atmospheric, ionospheric and solar studies. In the first section specific algorithms for use in pre-eclipse planning and post- eclipse analysis are presented. In the second section, appendices, concerned with the calculation of solar and lunar ephemerides of requisite accuracy for prediction purposes, the calculation of ephemeris sidereal time, the prediction of the shadow outline on and above the earth, the calculation of local eclipse circumstances and the development of solar coordinate systems, provide the background for and the foundation of these algorithms.
