Algorithms for the Solution of Large Matrix Systems Arising in Least Squares Problems.

Abstract

Algorithms are defined for this solution of large least squares problems using digital computers with multi-level storage. Methods are given both for normal equations solution and for direct solution of the equations of condition. The normal equations technique is compared with other available methods in terms of speed and accuracy. The methods have obvious applications in the fields of satellite geodesy, quantum chemistry, phase shift analysis and other large scale data reduction problems. (Author)
